The Art of Hospitality – Ideas that Extend Warm and Authentic Welcome & Care to Others

My Why: Searching for New Sprinkles & Smiles

I am at a crossroad.

My passion project, pictured here at around 2 years old and enjoying his first roadside frozen custard, is heading to college soon and claiming a readiness for less attention from his mother. I currently have a career in the tech world that I enjoy but it does not fill up the nooks and crannies of my creative soul.

Time and Space for More.

In search of direction.

Over 30 years ago, I started college in pursuit of a degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management and then switched to Accounting. It was a practical decision and my career choices have afforded my family a comfortable life, but I occasionally consider that unchartered path. Where would I be now if I had chosen differently? Would I live in France or Italy, own a bakery or winery, be the author of cookbooks?

I’m several years away from retirement from the corporate world. I have no ambition for a major restart – this gal is not keen to open a bed & breakfast or a small cafe or diner – but I am looking for something that I can start now at a slow roll that taps into that long-held interest in the art of hospitality.

Not a U-turn, but maybe a K-turn?

Setting the course to a new destination.

I’ve heard it said that it is best to start with what you know.

My professional career has allowed me to be a trainer, a researcher, and a writer of technical and training content.

My creative outlet to-date has been through making friends and family happy. Planning and hosting parties. Preparing food and batch cocktails. Creating homemade gifts. Capturing and sharing memories in photos and videos. Decorating our home through DIY.

I am putting a pin in the map. To build a blog of created and curated ideas – Food, Drink, Craft – that extend welcome and care to others. To find the sprinkles that bring smiles to family and friends. I hope that you can join me in this journey!
